Sri Lanka welcomes president who 'saved war heroes'

In a throwback to the era of defeated president Mahinda Rajapaksa, ruling party ministers have erected massive billboards applauding President Maithripala Sirisena who is returning after attending the UN general assembly.

Ministers AHM Fowzie, his son Nauzer Fowzie and Faizer Mustapa have constructed billboards along the highway from the country's main airport hailing President Sirisena for 'saving the dignity of our war heroes'.

The Sirisena government gained a major victory on Thursday (01) when the UNHRC approved plans to allow Sri Lanka to probe war crimes which the UN has found to be largely committed by the state security forces.

The former Rajapaksa regime has come under heavy criticism by the present government for extravagance on boosting the image of Mahinda Rajapaksa and for corruption.
