Jaffna: They sat by the rivers of grief and wept

When the UN rights chief visited Jaffna on the 27th of August, she was welcomed by the Governor of the Northern province, a former senior military officer accused of committing grave rights violations during the war. Outside the Jaffna Public Library, where they met, the desperate mothers, wives and children of the disappeared endlessly wept holding photographs of their missing relatives. Photographer Lakshman Warnakulasooriya, captured the moments of overwhelming grief and sorrow. (Click image below to view photo essay)
