Moments of Devotion: 'For a better life….'

During the Hindu religious feast and procession called “Kali Festival” , the devotees become the “highlight” of the test ones physical endurance. The symbolic ritual of inflicting self-pain is seen as a manifestation of religious devotion: a ritual they have been doing year after year in the name of goddess Kali and in their own words in hope….for a better life! In August 2010, Sri Lankan born photographer,  Shantan Kumarasamy, captured these vivid moments of devotion in suburban Colombo, Sri Lanka. (Click image below to view photo essay)
